Roles of Mock Trial
Opening Attorney
The opeing attorney is responsible for giving the opening statement, required to be less than five (5) minutes long. The opening statement is used to tell the basic story of the case.
The opening attorney is also responsible for giving a direct examination of a witness (another member of CU Mock Trial) and a cross examination (of a witness from the opponent's team).
Middle Attorney
The middle attorney is responsible for going through Pre-Trial work. This occurs before opening statements and consists of putting the court on notice, and asking permision to move about the well, etc.
The middle attonrey is also responsible for giving a direct examination of a witness (another member of CU Mock Trial) and a cross examination (of a witness from the opponent's team).
Closing Attorney
The closing attorney is responsible for giving the closing argument, required to be less than nine (9) minutes long. The closing argument is used to argue the evidence that came out in trial for one side of the case.
The closing attorney is also responsible for giving a direct examination of a witness (another member of CU Mock Trial) and a cross examination (of a witness from the opponent's team).
Expert Witness
The expert witness plays the role of a witness with a specialization in a specific area that would aid the jury in the case.
As a witness, this person acts as a witness through a direct examination (by another member of CU Mock Trial) and gets cross examined (by a lawyer from the opponent's team).
Character Witness
The character witness plays the role of a witness that has a unique quirk or lack thereof specialization.
As a witness, this person acts as a witness through a direct examination (by another member of CU Mock Trial) and gets cross examined (by a lawyer from the opponent's team).
